Learning objectives

Participants will:

  • Discuss the impact of immobility in the ICU
  • Review the prevalence of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
  • Describe the physiology and pathophysiology of ARDS
  • Discuss the different treatment modalities for ARDS
  • Articulate the mechanism of action with prone positioning
  • Review clinical research related to prone positioning
  • Incorporate the clinical research into evidence-based practice

Julie Petty is a critical care registered nurse with over thirty years of emergency/critical care experience including ground and air transport. Even as a new nurse she was inspired by medical devices and how their use could improve patient outcomes. Moving into medical device full time as a consultant has allowed her to use her relationships inside hospitals to connect the product to the right patient while also keeping the staff safe.Julie has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and is currently finishing a Master’s of Science in Nursing. Certified Emergency Nurse, Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse and certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Trauma are also part of her journey. She was adjunct faculty at Indiana Wesleyan University Nursing Program as well as Ivy Tech Community College. Poster presentation for the National Bariatric Conference October 2024.Past awards Clinical Experience Coordinator of the year 2014. Critical Care Team of the year 2022 Arjo.Vintage shopping is a part of her free time as well as currently building her dream barndominium. She volunteers with the youth ministry at her church where her husband is the pastor in Greenwood, Indiana. They have five children as well as a fluffy golden retriever named Apollo.
