With one in four acute care hospital beds estimated to be occupied by patients living with dementia5, and 30% of patients aged 65 and older suffering from delirium at some point during their hospital stay6, the unfamiliar hospital environment can be a confusing and frightening experience for patients with cognitive disorders. This can lead to an increase in disruptive behaviours such as agitation, restlessness, and shouting out, which can disturb other patients and require additional time and attention that busy hospital staff can find challenging to provide.
