Solar energy covers almost 50% of the energy consumption in Arjo factory

Arjo’s first large-scale solar energy installation is now up and running on the rooftops of the company’s Suzhou factory in eastern China. Generating up to 600 MWh of electricity yearly, the installation is expected to cover almost 50 percent of the factory’s total energy consumption.

The solar energy installation, which has been in operation since 31 May this year, enables a greenhouse gas emission reduction equivalent to 370 tons of CO2 annually. This accounts for about 40 per cent of the total CO2 emissions from the Suzhou factory.

“We are committed to reducing emissions from our company’s own operations (scope 1 & 2) by 50 percent by 2030, and the transition to renewable electricity in our facilities is crucial for achieving this target,” says Jonas Cederhage, EVP Supply Chain and Product Development & Operations.

Including 2,790 square metres of solar panels, roughly equivalent to the size of 11 tennis courts, the installation is the result of a partnership with an external solar energy company.

“The project benefits both our sustainability performance and business efficiency. By becoming more self-sufficient in renewable energy, we are less vulnerable to energy price fluctuations,” explains Kevin Zhao, Senior Director Operations China.
