The presentation explores how shifting hygiene care from a routine task to an enriching experience can improve physical, emotional, and psychological well-being for both caregivers and recipients. Emphasising a person-centered approach, this session highlights the connection between hygiene care, and overall wellness, especially for people living with dementia. Participants will learn innovative strategies to promote dignity, comfort, and safety while still focusing on individual needs. Incorporating functional and practical strategies, along with case scenarios, attendees will gain insights into how and why the transformation of hygiene care practices, fosters a culture of wellness.

- Recognise the impact of dementia on healthcare systems globally.
- Understand the principles and importance of a person-centered care approach to healthcare.
- Be introduced to the connection between hygiene care and overall physical, emotional, and psychological wellness.

- Review case scenarios to demonstrate successful implementation of elevated hygiene care practices for people living with dementia.

Rosie Sears lives by the mantra “Live Limitlessly, Live Abundantly”. Always striving for excellence and best practice, Rosie is a Registered Physiotherapist, holds Masters Degrees in both Advanced Human Biodynamics and Social Work (convocation June 2024), and a post graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.Over the past two decades, Rosie has focused her sights, both personally and professionally on educating and supporting organisations, families and individuals around enhancing the experiences of those living with dementia. Along with her consultative practice, Rosie currently works as a Behavioural Specialist at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, Canada and is a certified Trainer in the Gentle Persuasive Approach and PIECES.Rosie is a leader in Behavioural Supports, and has taken and taught numerous workshops on Aging, Responsive Behaviours, and Behavioural Support Strategies, to complement her person-centered, holistic, functional and practical approach to dementia care.
