A few years ago, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the top federal agency responsible for improving the safety and quality of America’s healthcare system, released “Preventing Hospital-Acquired Venous Thromboembolism: A Guide for Effective Quality Improvement.” This comprehensive guide, authored by Dr. Greg Maynard, MD, MSc, Chief Quality Officer at UC Davis Health, was published to assist healthcare providers and hospitals further improve their VTE prevention efforts and strategies for better patient outcomes.

Essential elements to achieve meaningful VTE prevention improvement include:1

  • Institutional support and prioritization
  • An empowered, multidisciplinary team
  • Reliable data collection and performance tracking
  • Scope definition and measurable, time-defined goals
  • A proven quality-improvement framework
  • Standardized VTE risk assessment and prophylaxis protocol
  • Institutional infrastructure, policies and practices
  • Educational programs to promote protocols

Arjo is dedicated to increasing VTE awareness through ongoing support and education, and providing clinically-effective solutions for the prevention of VTE. It’s always the right time to ensure we’re doing all we can to safeguard patients at risk by optimizing VTE prevention efforts and strategies to improve outcomes.
