WTD Webinar - Blood clots do not discriminate: Who and how should we protect?


Prof. Chris Ward will present on the changing face of VTE in the hospital and outpatient setting with a focus on new risk factors and patient cohorts. He will also outline the evolving prevention strategies relating to patients with an active malignancy, pregnancy/postpartum, lower limb fracture and immobilisation which will extend into the role of the Australian VTE Clinical care standards and how these should be implemented.  

Following Prof. Ward’s presentation, Shannon Garvin Vascular Therapies Specialist will present the current VTE clinical guidelines and the use of mechanical prophylaxis for VTE prevention.

Prof. Chris Ward

Clinical Haematologist Royal North Shore Hospital, Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney

He is a Clinical Haematologist based at Royal North Shore Hospital, and Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. His clinical interests are coagulation, particularly venous thromboembolism and platelet disorders. Prof. Ward is Director of Research for the Department of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, overseeing coagulation and stem cell research. He holds several leadership roles in the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, including Chair of Education and Outreach.
