Leading and Engaging to Drive Reductions in Healthcare Staff Injuries: Impacts of an Evidence Based Mobility Program
With increasing pressures to our health system, comes higher risks to staff injuries through patient or resident handling. Careworker injuries can impact patient and resident care and organisational efficiency and costs. In this session, we will discuss how evidence-based practices of the Arjo MOVE program can be leveraged to create improvements in quality of care and quality of work. We will discuss the importance of leadership in fostering a culture of safety and engagement, supporting the staff to be motivated and equipped to follow best practices in patient mobility.

Melodie is a registered nurse with extensive experience in senior operational roles in tertiary hospital settings. Her most recent role was as Executive Director and Chief Midwifery & Nursing Officer in a regional hospital in Victoria, Australia.Melodie’s career highlights include: working in and managing a large intensive care unit; directing the operational activities of a tertiary surgical and endoscopy service; working for the Victorian Department of Health during the COVID pandemic response; and sitting as a Board member on the State and National regulatory bodies for nurses and midwivesMelodie earned her Executive MBA at RMIT University, has a Masters of Nursing, Graduate Diploma in Health administration, a critical care nursing qualification and a Diploma of Company Directorship from the AICD.
